THE HOAX signs with Despised Youth Records

Posted in Music News on February 4th, 2010 by divinemetaldistro

Despised Youth Records is pleased to announce the signing of Southern California punk band THE HOAX.

The Hoax started as the brain child of bassist and lead singer Tyler Dunagan and guitarist Ricky “Johnny Hoax” Madson. They started with the idea of making a Christian punk band inspired by bands like Officer Negative, The Havoc, and Headnoise.

They soon got local drummer Daniel “Danimal” Cathers to join, finishing the three-piece, in January ‘05. Starting with a cover of J.C.H.C. the band was soon writing music and found their first show in Fall ‘05 with other local bands The M.O.P.I.C., D.S.B., and Dead Theory. The Hoax continued to play shows, being grateful to play with such bands as Headnoise and The Havoc.  In October ‘07, The Hoax made a mission’s trip to Russia where they put on free Outreach concerts in Kirov for the local college students.

In the summer of 2008, the band experimented with moving Tyler to full-time lead vocals and adding another bass player. Matt “Navajo Joe” Dreer played bass for The Hoax for two song recordings and one show at the Stronghold. Sadly other matters lead him to choose to leave the band, but he will still join in as a special guest at several live shows.

In January 2009, The Hoax recorded their first studio EP. At nine songs, fourteen minutes, “Fight To Be Free” was released in April ‘09.

The Hoax is a Christian punk band with the goal of doing the Lord’s ministry wherever he puts them within the punk community.

The Hoax will begin recording their debut album for Despised Youth in the near future with a planned Summer time release. Their EP, “Fight To Be Free” will soon be digitally released via Despised Youth Records and will be available at all major online digital stores.

You can check out a few tracks from the band’s EP, “Fight To Be Free” on the bands myspace page.

LIVING SACRIFICE: ‘The Infinite Order’ First-Week Sales Revealed

Posted in Music News on February 3rd, 2010 by divinemetaldistro
“The Infinite Order”, the new album from the reunited Little Rock, Arkansas-based Christian death/thrash/metalcore band LIVING SACRIFICE, sold around 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Released on January 26 via Solid State Records, the band’s first CD since reforming in 2008 and seventh studio album overall was produced in Nashville, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas by the group’s longtime friend Jeremiah Scott (THE SHOWDOWN, DESTROY DESTROY DESTROY). Mixing duties were once again handled by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, AS I LAY DYING), who worked on the band’s last album, 2003’s “Conceived in Fire”.

“The Infinite Order” track listing:

01. Overkill Exposure
02. Rules Of Engagement
03. Nietzche’s Madman
04. Unfit To Live
05. The Training
06. Organized Lie
07. The Reckoning
08. Love Forgives
09. They Were One
10. God Is My Home
11. Apostasy

“This new record came together great,” stated frontman Bruce Fitzhugh. “I could not be more pleased with the final mixes that Andy Sneap has done. We dug deep into our thrash roots on this one, I think.

“The album title refers to God and the universe. Man is finite and limited, our knowledge is limited. Wrestling with the concept of infinity is difficult, but there is true peace in trusting in God.”

The “Rules Of Engagement” video can be viewed below.

LIVING SACRIFICE’s influence runs deep throughout the scene. Former and current members of LIVING SACRIFICE went on to play in bands such as P.O.D. and NORMA JEAN.

LIVING SACRIFICE broke up in 2002 but returned to the metal community with a vengeance in 2008, self-releasing the two song “Death Machine” digital-only EP.

“The Infinite Order” is described in a press release as “an unapologetic reminder as to exactly why so many of today’s heavy music leaders in bands big and small hold LIVING SACRIFICE and their legacy in such high esteem.”

Cover illustrations were handled by Dave Quiggle, with packaging by the Solid State / Tooth & Nail team.

LIVING SACRIFICE has announced a U.S. tour, dubbed “The Abominable Snowtour”, that will crisscross the nation from February 5 to February 28. The band will share top billing throughout the tour with metal cohorts WAR OF AGES, with support from SHAI HULUD, LIONHEART and THE GREAT COMMISSION.

IMPENDING DOOM Parts Ways With Guitarist, Drummer

Posted in Music News on February 3rd, 2010 by divinemetaldistro

California-based Christian death metallers IMPENDING DOOM have confirmed the departures of guitarist Manny Contreras and drummer Isaac Bueno. Bassist David Sittig states, “Both of them felt like this was not for them anymore. It happened a while back before we entered the studio [to record the new IMPENDING DOOM album].

He adds, “Not everyone can maintain the amount of passion that IMPENDING DOOM requires. That being said, we are still great friends with both Manny and Isaac and wish them both nothing but the best.

“Our good friend Brandon Trahan (ex-MIRROR OF DEAD FACES) has stepped in on drums and just recently finished tracking on our upcoming record, which will be released this summer. As for rhythm guitar, we have someone stepping in for our upcoming tours and summer festivals.”

“The Serpent Servant”, the latest album from IMPENDING DOOM, sold 4,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 144 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“The Serpent Servant” was recorded at Lambesis Studios in San Diego with Tim Lambesis and Daniel Castleman (AS I LAY DYING, WAR OF AGES, WINDS OF PLAGUE) and was released today (March 31) through Facedown Records. It was mixed and mastered by Zeuss (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, TERROR).

IMPENDING DOOM refers to its style of Christian metal as “gorship” — a portmanteau of gore and worship. The band also clarify on their MySpace blog that “gorship” is their way of worshipping God through their gore-sounding music; not worshipping “gore” as some are led to believe.

Capital Chaos has posted video footage of California-based Christian death metallers IMPENDING DOOM performing on July 23, 2009 at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, California. Watch the clip below.

KORN Bassist Talks About Being Christian, New CD And Former Guitarist HEAD

Posted in Music News on February 3rd, 2010 by divinemetaldistro
Eric Blair of “The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show” recently conducted an interview with KORN bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu at this year’s NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, which was held January 14-17, 2010 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Watch the chat below.

KORN will top the bill on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour, which is scheduled to kick off on July 10 in San Bernardino, California.

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will be the first major city tour for KORN in support of the band’s ninth studio album, tentatively titled “Korn III - Remember Who You Are”. The new album marks the return of producer Ross Robinson, who worked with KORN on their first two releases, “Korn” and “Life is Peachy”. Lead vocalist Jonathan Davis has said that the new material matches the pure raw emotion of KORN’s early releases while the current touring band has never been tighter.

“We experimented with a lot of cool stuff on our last two records [2005's 'See You On The Other Side' and 2007's untitled effort], but we didn’t want to do another record like that,” Davis explained to Revolver magazine. “So we said, ‘Let’s strip it back again. Let’s do this as a four-piece and make it real raw like the old stuff.”

KORN’s forthcoming effort was tracked last October at the band’s studio. “We recorded everything on tape, just like we did in the old days,” said Davis. “And we didn’t stack four or five vocal parts like I usually do. I’m singing one part for every song, which was scary. It’s just me and the microphone, and you can really hear the emotion.”

HALCYON WAY complete tracking for new album

Posted in Music News on February 3rd, 2010 by divinemetaldistro

HALCYON WAY complete tracking for new album Atlanta progressive metal band HALCYON WAY has completed the tracking for their new CD, to be released late Spring by Nightmare Records.

The album was produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Svartsot) and guitarist Jon Bodan. Drums were engineered by Mike Froedge (doubleDrive, Bloodsimple, Speed X) at Open Sky Studios in Atlanta. Lammert is mixing the album at his studio, LSD-Tonstudio in Germany. The new release is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut by the band, “A Manifesto For Domination“. It features the debut of new vocalist Steve Braun (Ashent, Siloam), as well as a guest appearance by Pamela Moore of Queensryche fame. “We’re incredibly excited about the new material,” said guitarist Jon Bodan. “This album is a quantum leap forward for HALCYON WAY – the material is both heavier and more aggressive, but it also is far catchier and more melodic at the same time than Manifesto. The guys in the band all stepped their individual games up, and the material is better for it. Lasse did a great job on the production, and we expect the mixdown and mastering process to be completed by the end of February.”

HALCYON WAY has appeared live with many bands such as Helloween, Strapping Young Lad, TYR, Kamelot, Symphony X, Doro Pesch, Cathedral, Virgin Black, Samael, Vicious Rumors, Seven Witches, and many others. In addition they have appeared at ProgPower USA on two occasions, and at Rocklahoma 2008 and 2009.

STRYPER checks in from the road

Posted in Music News on February 2nd, 2010 by divinemetaldistro

STRYPER have issued the following road report:

“Hello Everyone! Looking back on the past five months I’ve realized that I’ve been a little more on the reserved side regarding updates and staying in touch. To be completely honest, it’s been nice being more on the reclusive side but for some reason, I felt inclined to write today, 2/1, and I seem to have a lot on my heart so here goes……..

“The tour has been a tug of war so to speak - pros and cons, ups and downs and an exhausting run that has certainly taken its toll physically and emotionally. Although we all enjoy our time on stage sharing the music and the message that God has blessed us with, the road life is very difficult at times and can be quite draining. Plain and simple - it can beat you up! We are all feeling the effects. I’m handling the touring life a little easier these days due to eating healthier, staying conditioned and taking care of myself (or at least trying to). God has taken care of us and answered prayer in terms of keeping us healthy and strong throughout the tour. There has been some sickness here and there but for the most part, by comparison, we’ve been healthier and stronger this time around.

“The fans have been incredibly supportive and I’ve asked the same question night after night - ‘How many people have seen Stryper before?’ and ‘How many people have never seen Stryper before?’ Surprisingly, just as many hands, if not more, went up for question number two at every show! I’ve never personally seen that before and it confirms the incredible number of new fans out there who are following the band. It really is amazing and encouraging to see. I want to give recognition to our crew – Rick Pietila, Dave Allen, John McCormack, Brett Walker, Ellena Sweet and Shane Martin. They worked incredibly hard, despite the circumstances and the bitter cold, and they made this tour work plain and simple. Without them, we would be lost. We love you guys and we are thankful for all that you do! I also want to personally thank each and every one of you who made it out to a show and for your undying support and enthusiasm and for helping us accomplish what we set out to do. We are eternally grateful and we’ll always acknowledge the fact that we are nothing without all of you. Thank you!

“I want to touch on the future of Stryper and give you some insight of things to come and things that may not come. At this point, we should be touring on and off throughout 2010 but possibly not as much as originally planned. Due to unexpected expenses, it is very difficult to continue touring and ‘pay the bills’ and it can become virtually impossible to continue touring, even if the band wants to, and we do! We will do our best to plan and confirm more shows but there is the remote possibility that it may not be as extensive as originally planned.

“I also want to address the possibility of a new Stryper record and any plans to tour in support of a new record. I’m confident that there will be a new record and a tour to follow but we need to make some changes in order to reach our full potential. Stryper has the most loyal, diehard fans around the globe and it amazes me how many fans we have. We see it when we tour and literally thousands upon thousands of fans show up, worldwide! It is astonishing. Unfortunately, the number of people that we see at our shows doesn’t translate to record sales and because of this explainable phenomenon, we will be making appropriate changes in order to advance the band and progress instead of regress. We made one of the best records in the history of the band with ‘Murder By Pride’. The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive and we should be able to build this as we did back in 1984, when we first began. It was a lot of hard work and sacrifice on our part but we saw the band go from clubs to theaters to arenas in a 2-3 year period. I know times have changed and it’s a difficult world in a hurting economy, but I still believe in my heart that the potential of this band is limitless. God has blessed us with a unique, one of a kind ministry and so many lives have been touched, changed and renewed through the power of music and the power of Gods word!!! We are all very proud to have been a part of the past and to be a part of the future of this band and we are excited about the things to come. I know there is so much if we make wise decisions and wise choices in everything that we set out to do from this day forward. It is promising and very, very exciting and I’ve learned over the years to never, ever limit God.

“A video – oh yes! A video? We’ll, we have been making changes in the editing and trying to put together a video that is as visually powerful as it is musically and it just hasn’t panned out quite like we expected it to do. We are working hard to get this video to the point where it will be what it should be. We’re just not there yet. Hopefully we will be soon. Until then, we don’t want to release anything that’s below our expectations or yours. We were always a ‘video’ band and known for our videos so it’s important to us to release something that holds up to our videos of the past. Trust me when I say that we are working hard and we will get it right……….

“And last but certainly not least, I want to personally thank all of you for your kindness, your love, your compassion and your support in my recent marriage to Lisa. After going through the most difficult time of my life, you all have shown me what it means to be a brother, a sister, a friend, and an example of Christ through your words, your smiles, your emails, your posts and your letters. I do so appreciate your love and support and I will always be eternally grateful. You have helped me through what seemed to be the most impossible situation to come out of. May God bless and guide you and I look forward to the future, and to seeing you all very soon!!!”
